Pipe Friendly BBC Show- Endeavor

Wiki: BBC's Endeavour (2012)is a British television detective drama series. It is a prequel to the long-running Inspector Morse. Set in the 1960s & '70s in Oxford, England, the series centers on the early career of DC Morse (Shaun Evans).

In the pilot, there are several scenes where the young Morse's mentor calmly packs and lights his pipe (Dunhill?). There is even a quick shot of the tobacco packed bowl of the man's briar pipe. His smoking it appears several times and seems to be a calm and refined activity by an avuncular, intelligent man. I've only seen the pilot. I found it to be a well put together program. Good pacing and overall an engaging plot.

The pipe smoking is presented as a positive activity and indicative of a refined, practical thinking man. I will be watching more of it.

It was ITV not the BBC who produced Endeavor.

Endeavour is a very good show, but not for children as it is somewhat dark in nature and has adult themes. Inspector Thursday smokes a pipe in many of the episodes.

I've been watching a lot of film noir lately, and these films are replete with pipe smokers. It is so frequent and causal that it seems as though the entire world was smoking pipes like we drink water.

Endeavour is of course a spin off of Inspector Morse. In one episode of the latter I recall Morse saying to his sidekick Lewis "it's called geneology Lewis, you know, geneology, the tracing of one's family tree".

Geneology indeed, it's GENEALOGY and the original writer of the stories would be spinning in his grave as he was a well known wordsmith!
