Since I've started back into pipe smoking I got an added bonus, my father has started smoking his old pipes as well. We seem to talk a lot more now, calling each other about different pipes, tobacco, and smoking/packing techniques. When we see each other now, its expected that we will be on the porch for an hour, smoking and talking, just the two of us. It goes without saying that we've become closer in the last months.

I remember playing with his pipes when I was a kid, and they were nothing special. I decided to get him a nice estate pipe, perform necessary restoration, then give it to him for Christmas this year.

As luck would have it, I won an auction for a Comoy's Christmas 1981 pipe, in his favorite shape. It arrived pretty dirty, but workable. Although it does have a couple fills, I'm happy with the results. I just finished the salt & alcohol treatment and final polish this evening. I can't wait to give it to him in December, probably with a tin of Peterson's Holiday Season.

That's a good restoration. The grain picked up a lot of color and depth. It's a good big bowl and

an admirable classic shape. Your dad will have a fine time digesting Christmas dinner and he'll

think of you every time he lights up this pipe, when you're there and when you're not.

Very nice restore and great to hear about the renewed relationship with your dad. I am sure he will love it and hope you two have some good times hanging and smoking together.

You did a great job on the restore, I think your dad will love it especially a gift like that coming from his son.

Excellent job! Make sure you take a picture of your dad and the pipe on Christmas morning and post here, I'm checking a favorite to make sure I don't miss that Christmas grin. Well done!
