Pipe Doesn't Break In

Unfortunately yes I did have one like that. I smoked about 25 to 30 bowls in it and it always had a funky flavor no matter what. It was a beautiful piece by a well known brand.

I thought of just pressing on and smoking it until it got better, but decided it just was not worth it. Life was too short to waste on a pipe that doesn't let you back.

How many bowls of tobacco does it typically take to break in a pipe if there is an average.

All depends on your definition of "broken in". When a pipe of mine consistantly delivers an acceptable smoking experience I consider it "broken in." No more than ten bowls or, out it goes. I didn't buy my pipe to "break in", I puschased it to smoke, deliver nicotine without a lot of effort. If I load it competently, minimally tend to it as I work, I should get an acceptable, a subjective term to be sure, smoking experience. At that point I consider the pipe to be broken in, it's dependable.
