Pipe Display - Work in Progress

Been thinking this project through for several weeks, and have decided to get started. My intention will be to utilize disc and spherical rare earth magnets to get 4 pipes (not these) to "stand up" and be seen. The old walnut slab is something I salvaged from here in KC a few years ago, and decided to put some of it to use. I also intend to cut a shallow recess for the tobacco jar, and turn a small tamper utilizing a .38 Special shell casing.

What are your plans for installing the magnets? :puffpipe:

Planning to use a properly sized forstner bit to recess them in slightly deeper than their thickness. I'm hoping the little "ledge" that creates will help the pipes stand with their stems at roughly 30-degrees. The spherical magnet will be dropped in the bowl. Might consider a piece of felt over each magnet, but not sold on that idea just yet.
Gonna run this on a piece of scrap to make sure my ideas and reality jive :wink:
