Hi guys, I'm a beginner and today after one of the first smoking I find on my pipe that mark on the rim, what can I do about it?

I'll be more careful with the flame,

I was thinking about sanding it a little bit to take away the black rim (I tried already saliva and alcohol) but I don't know what to do with the mark on the rim16668187095811940430019213340499.jpg16668187972385943080233968871544.jpg

Is that a small chip in the wood? Can’t really tell from the photos.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, as you smoke it the rim will naturally darken a bit.

If it’s a chip you could dab a little dye on it I suppose but otherwise I probably wouldn’t do anything aggressive at this point. I’ve bought estate pipes with tiny knife slips from reaming and they all smoke just fine and over time I just don’t notice that anymore. YMMV.

The charred bit might be just that. As long as the wood is not burnt, you should be able to remove it with spit and paper towel. If wood is burnt, just leave alone. Don't use sand paper unless you know what you are doing.
