Pipe Cleaners aren\'t Just for Cleaning

You can make funny little stick men out of them too. Seriously though, for the beginners that may not know this, you can use a pipe cleaner while you are smoking your pipe to improve your pipe smoking enjoyment.
If you ever get that little annoying gurgling sound, this is a bad sign. Your pipe is smoking too hot and if you keep going this way, it will become bitter.
The gurgling noise is caused by liquid condensation caused by the heat and combustion of smoking. When you hear this sound just take a pipe cleaner and gently insert it into the stem. Hold it there for a few seconds and then remove it. The pipe cleaner will soak up the liquid and then you can continue smoking your pipe without gurgling sounds and bitter tastes.

However, I must add that sometimes a gurgling pipe is not caused by smoking to fast/hot. Among other things, it can sometimes be attributed to an overly moist tobacco, pipe construction, and sometimes a new pipe will do it until you get some cake built up in the bowl. These are a few things that can cause a gurgle as well. Some pipes will just gurgle for no reason at all.
But like Kevin said; be sure you aren't smoking to fast/hot and if you do get that gurgle, just stick a pipe cleaner down through the stem and shank and absorb the tobacco 'juice'. It doesn't taste too pleasant.

Also, curled up bits of pipe cleaner make great 9mm filters.
If you spiral it just right you can keep a good amount of airflow while stopping tobacco bits from reaching your mouth. It also delays the onset of gurgle.
