pipe cleaners are also great for cleaning the nipples of muzzleloaders and percussion revolvers
They can be used for a lot of things. My wife is into crafts and sometimes I get dragged into one of those mega craft stores while she shops. I've noticed they sell a lot of different "pipe cleaners". I can tell you this; don't try any of those for cleaning your pipes, they're krap! puffy

why on earth would anybody bother to clean a straw, their even cheaper than pipe cleaners and you can get them pre wrapped individually if you are so ocd about cleanliness

but usefull as shank brushes yes
There's a huge campaign to stop using disposable plastic straws to save the sea turtles. Too much plastic garbage in our oceans. There are videos on YouTube of sea turtles with a plastic straw and plastic fork stuck in there noses.

I've been to a few restaurants that offer a plastic or paper straw option. If given the option, I'll pick a paper straw.

@LimestoneCowboy : We have our winner. I knew there had to be one out there somewhere. Not only does this Gentleman recycle pipe cleaners he also has the whole kit with an Ultra Sonic do hickey along with an anti-rust tank. I am completely blown away Sir. I am completely blown away and madly impressed by your dedication. PM me your address and I'll send you an English Plug tobacco to enjoy since you have made my day and it will leave some residue in your pipe that may prove challenging!

Now who is going to tell us about how they wash and reuse their pipe cleaners? There is alway one lurking on this forum somewhere who pops them in with his weekly wash and hot cycle!

I was going to but just gauging the matter based on your reply I decided that I would only be ridiculed.

It's been about 20 years since I had to buy pipe cleaners. Yeah, I like to buy in bulk. But like all good things, it comes to an end and I'm running low. I know prices have gone up on everything, but DAMN!, puffy I couldn't believe what they're asking for them on the net. So, I could use your help. Do any of you know where to get a reasonable price on cleaners in bulk. I'd like to buy at least 1,000 of of the bristle type, like Ream-n-Klean or something similar. Thanks for any help.
Just when I got a good handle on abbreviation’s like PAD, TAD now we have PCD ( pipe cleaner disorder) ?

Not a bit of it my friend. You are competing against 21st century Ultra Sonic technology. This is not a matter of popping your soiled pipe cleaners on a Number 3 Boil and Spin cycle. We have entered a whole new dimension of PCSD - Pipe Cleaner Salvage Disorder!

Oh ok. Well I generally use them to clean my teeth and freshen my breath after pipe use so I might look into that.

Regarding the OP since you haven't bought pipe cleaners in 30 years I would imagine you have quite a nest egg nestled away which could be used for pipe cleaner purchases despite the exuberant prices now.

I use the modeling ones - you know the long fluffy things that tend not to break amber stems, bird feathers are pretty good too at a push! I think you might be confusing me with someone else since I frequently buy pipe cleaners.

I was referring to the OP or OPP (original pipe-cleaner poster, "hey, OPP, you know me").

I happen to only buy vicuña pipe cleaners which due to price and availability I turn into pipe cozies after they no longer are fit for cleaning.
