With rare exceptions, I break in every pipe with straight Virginia blends. That's the most tobacco and IMHO, the most demanding on a pipe. If the pipe smokes great with Virginia, I believe it will smoke great with any other blend. Smoking straight Virginia about 75% of the time is also a factor.
Straight virginias smokes hot...too much sugar in it...Did you have any problems ?I do not like the brake in process with virginias,I use burleys or english if pipe seems to be dedicated to English blends...

I always break in my pipes with either a VA,Vaper or Vabur flakes. I have found I get a nice hard cake fairly quickly so when I decide to pick a certain genres for a pipe or a blend specific pipe, my pipes are broken in and ready to find the magic combo's.

I just try to smoke something that’s non-aromatic Viriginia, burley or a combo. That way I don’t ghost it before I figure out what genre to dedicate the pipe to. That being said, I suppose any tobacco works as well as another to get some carbon on the surface of the bowl interior.
