Just keep smoking it. You will notice something if the pipe is damaged.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the purpose of the ferrule is just to add structural integrity to the shank so it doesn't wear/split. Gluing it back in place will make it function again
I've glued a couple back on myself.
