I posted earlier about an estate pipe that I bought stamped "Old Vic." In the pictures that I posted I showed a pretty large crack in the stem. I think the only way to fix this is by banding it. So my question is, have any of you banded your own pipe? Any tips?

Ive never done a stirling silver band. But I got a banding tool and bands from here http://www.pipemakers.org

What one has to do is slide the ban on to where you want need it then heat it with a propane tourch and run the banding tool on it as its hot. flip the tool and run around again to polish the band.

Or you could go to the hardware store withh your pipe and check out the brass fittings find one that the shank will fit in snuggly then glue and clamp the crack and let dry. Once dry muscle the band on over the crack and glue it in place. I got a pipe from Jason Gone where this was done. Good results.

What glue should I use? Because I asked a guy at a B&M and he said it wasn't a good idea because most glue is toxic.

I always band my pipes before I release them with other pipes, so I can tell which one is mine!
