Being new to pipe smoking (2 months), I don't have high quality pipe yet, but I thought I'd post a pic of what I have so far anyway....
012.jpg

On the left are mine: The top one doesn't have a brand on it except that Italy is written on it. The first one I bought (on E-Bay), and is my favorite. I broke it in using Captain Black white, and even though I tried a few other blends (including a Solani and a Petersen), this pipe with the good ol' Cap'n is my favorite so far. The one in the middle is a cheap Chang Feng, feels like the stem will come off everytime I smoke it, but I do enjoy it nonetheless. The bottom one is my Meerschaum, which is now useless (see my other thread).
On the right are my wife's: The top one is a Chang Feng like mine, different model but just as cheap, and the bottom one is the first one she purchased, a Meerschaum.
We've ordered four more pipes on E-Bay we should get next week. Two corncobs and two other briars (Ukrainian author's). Can't wait to receive them...

Yep. We're both cigarette smokers. A couple of months ago I told her I wanted to try pipe smoking to reduce and maybe quit cigarettes. She looked at me funny and dismissed it lol. When I received my first pipe and tried it, she wanted a taste just to try. She enjoyed it. Now she smokes a bowl almost every day.

I just saved the chart to my computer.

And I agree with others; very cool that your wife has her own pipes! Keep up the good smoking ha ha!

Excellent! The first Pipes in any collection will always be special,

because they were the first. I've still got the few that survived those

early years of learning and they continue to provide good service. They

have no artistic merit, are not made from components that are sought after,

but they smoke well..., which is after all what it's all about. Good for

you and The Bride!

I have to echo everyone's sentiments.

Those first pipes are always keepers.

I still have mine after 36 years, and I still smoke them on occasion.

Following the white rabbit
They may not be "high quality" as you say, but they look like fine pipes to me. The quality of a pipe, to me at least, isn't in the price paid but in how well it smokes.
Cudos to your better half.

Okay, some some of these pipe shapes are pretty unique (you're not likely to confuse a Cavalier with a Vest Pocket), but some of them look almost identical. The images below for Canadian, Liverpool, and Billiard are almost exactly the same. Same for the Brandy and Bent Apple. And the bulldog and Rhodesian (except for the saddle bit on the Rhodesian).
pipeshapechart.jpg

Does something like a shorter stem make it a "Canadian"? Does a diamond shaped shank make a pipe a rhodesian? What other details not on this chart make a difference?
Also, can you mix 'n match? If you put a long stem onto a Volcano shaped bowl, is it a Churchwarden, a Volcano, or a Churchcano*?
*OOH! New Contest! Following the popularity of mixed breed dogs (Labradoodles, Puggles, Bull Shihtz, etc. [What ever happened to "mutt"?]), mix and match your own pipe breeds! Create the "Diplodesian"! Or the delicious "Lumberberry"! Even that rascal, the "Oom Paul Pot"! (What, too soon?) Free innernets will be awarded for the funniest combos.

Canadian shaped pipes have an oval shank.
The differences between the Brandy and the Apple is more in the bowl shape than in the bend of the shank, the apple being more....apple shaped. ( sorry )
Rhodesians always have round shanks.
The differences look more subtle on this chart than they do in the flesh.

Billiards usually have a bowl that is as long as the shank, whereas a Canadian has a longer shank, comparatively, and oval. Yeah, these charts get you in the game, but the devil's in the details. Sometimes there are arguments, fights and bloodshed... okay, I'm exaggerating. But I'm sure that there have been wars started over less.
For more information with photos, Greg Pease has a section of his site on pipe shapes.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to congratulate you on the fine pipes! Dang thread hijackers. We're a menace.
