I live a few miles from the University of Texas campus. At the end of the school year, those spoiled brats discard everything they might have to pack and carry elsewhere.

Just wanted to show off my sweet "road trash" find the other day. I don't normally go looking for stuff like this, but on my way home from work I slammed the brakes on when I saw it gleaming in the sunshine. A Weber gas BBQ! I always drool over these at the hardware stores and have always wanted one, but always end up walking out with a cheapie. After giving it a major degreasing and scrub today and hosed it out, it is in great shape and fired up like a champ! (My old one is on the left) I call this a legendary upgrade. FREE!! It's amazing what some degreaser and elbow grease can do. The inside looks damn fine as well after a good degreasing with steel wool pad.

Since we're on gas barbecuing, what's the best thing to apply to the grill surface before firing up to make it more non-stick? Hi heat cooking oil?

Great score! I grew up very poor and learned at an early age "rehab" things that others deemed trash. We love cooking outside. We have a covered deck so we're able to cook out there a lot. If you like cooking outside look in to a Blackstone griddle. I bought one 2 years ago and we use it all the time. It's especially nice if you're cooking breakfast for a family. We can do the hash-browns, bacon and eggs all at the same time. It's really nice for pancakes as well because you can cook a whole families worth at the same time.

Just like a cast iron skillet - heat and use, no chemical cleaners. Flip meat when it releases easily instead of forcing it to flip

That's a score! I bought a Weber Genesis a few years ago, a great grill. If it has cast iron grates, a number of Ebay sellers make stainless grids. I also upgraded mine to stainless diffusers. They should last forever.

I too was expecting a pipe, or a pipe stand maybe.

I've been the lucky recipient of many curb side treasures which I then flipped for pipe money. Never found a nice looking BBQ like that though, nice find!
