I am a lucky guy. My wife got me three pipes for Christmas, and I also bought one on my own just before Christmas to smoke on Christmas eve. What's interesting about the pipes the wife got me is that I don't think they are pipes I probably would have bought on my own. She just thought they looked cool.
Here is the first, a Radice oompaul - I don't think I ever would have bought one of these (not my usual style), but I smoked a large bowl in it yesterday and it actually was quite wonderful. Here it is:

And the third she got me - a huge Ashton straight grain billiard with a silver cap. The first capped pipe I own. It 's gorgeous and surprisingly light. I'm scared to smoke it. ANyone else have a capped pipe, and if so any thoughts?

Finally, this is the Rad Davis I bought for myself to smoke on Christmas day. I haven't smoked it yet, since I smoked the Radice above.

Here's my belated present from myself to myself with the wife's approval and funds.
I say belated because the Post Office decided to close early on the 24th and the box was too big to fit in our little boxes at the mail room. Picked it up a couple hours ago. I've yet to smoke it.

This one Christmas night . An awesome Ser Jacopo

and I got these , Wife got me the Bulldog from the bay , my son made the cob and the little oak pipe . he even stained the cob , and flamed it to give the edges a burnt look . I assisted of course , but not much , he wanted credit , and said this was part of my Christmas . Remarkable skill for a 10y/o !

I also have a pipe with a metal rim on it. Not sure why you would be hesitant to smoke it, it just is something shiny that keeps the rim of the bowl from getting scorched.

Eric, I think it is a mental thing I am going through. My initial thought was that it would be like smoking jewellery. lol

Just be real careful with it I have a thinly silver plated one that wore off and exposed all the copper or whatever was under it, just like on those cheap Czech pipe tools... Of course it could always be re-plated.

Peckinpah,

Here is a photo of an Ashton that was made for our SHPC (Sherlock Holmes Pipe Club) Only 2 out of the 16 or so that we had made came with Sterling Silver Caps. I have smoked this one only a few times but it's a great smoke. Go ahead and light up that Sovereign you won't be sorry.

And below is a photo of my Christmas Pipe for this year from my better half. A carved meer by Yanik, and it also smokes like a dream.

Thanks guys. I still haven't smoked the Ashton with the silver cap. I hope to get to it soon, though now you have me concerned with what she probably spent on this thing. Maybe I should have it framed.
Docwatson, I love your Ashton. That is a gorgeous pip. And I have to pick up a Yanik meer at some point since I have heard a lot about those. I will check the sponsors' websites to see if any of them are yanik dealers.

Very nice pipes, guys. The Hombre ' s Rad and Ashton silver ring are gourgeous. Pike Bishop, Dutch Engstrom, Angelito, the Gorch brothers and Ole Sykes certainly would like them too...
