Gents, I came across this Peterson 999 that is shaped differently than what I am used to? I believe it is Pre-Republic. Any info?
It is in rough shape but a solid pipe with no burn outs or cracks. Looking forward to a fun restore project.

It is pre-Republic.
I've seen plenty of pre-Republic 999's (I own two) and they are all solid Rhodesian shapes. That one looks more Author than Rhodesian. I've not seen a 999 in that shape, that is very cool!
You might want to run that one by Mark Irwin for his input.

Both versions of the 999 look bulkier than the one I bought, a Killarney, in about 2012, which is still hefty but more spare than either of these. I think I like the trimmer version best, but these hefty ones are pretty wonderful.

Thanks Al! Found this photo on the Peterson's Pipe Notes blog

It said this catalog photo is from 1942. I saw the Circled "P" is associated with a Captain Peterson but I thought those were only english made and marked as such? I could be wrong but the stem appears to be original to this pipe...a perfect fit. Have been searching but the catalog photo is all I have been able to find of this 999 shape. Here is the clean up:

MSO489, I love the trimmer 999 as well but have focused my collection on the chubbier peterson 999 and xl999. With this new addition I am up 8 variations thanks in part to recent acquisitions from some forum members!
