I'll be back with a review, that's for sure.
I'm in Canada now, so customs is a little quicker these days. I don't know what those guys are up to. I returned some weeks ago to find two pipes in the mail. Or notices to pick up two pipes.
I get to the post office and both packages are opened and inspected by customs. 1 package had a tax added on and the other didn't. I couldn't understand it. I didn't dispute the $50 charge because it didn't make any sense and I had no idea how they came up with that number.
It's like a can of worms with them sometimes. Unless you're completely affronted, your best bet is to just shut up and pay the bill.
If they bust up this amber stem though, I don't know. We may have words.

I think you made the right decision here, it is a stunning pipe reminding me of the pipes back in the early 1900s without flashy contrast strains and angel hair straight grains. It also looks like the amber has an orifice button or whatever it is called. If I remember correctly, those could be made during the 1890ies or early 1900s as I assume they went ‘out of fasion’ on later years. Hope she will smoke like a charm!

Yeah, it has a bit of an older vibe to it, perhaps. Weird that a pipe can feel that way. I mean, it's a pipe. Anyone not obsessing over them sees it as something long ago buried with their grandpa.
I like the stain on your spigot, ash. That's kind of what I was holding out for. But the amber stems that are left, most have little stubby stems of amber and I don't think it's worth it. This one got to me because of the silver and decent length of amber.
So, I guess it's not one to admire the grain, but perhaps the workmanship of the silver and the old amber. I'm feeling good about that. Very much looking forward to trying one of these spigots!
Thanks to everyone for weighing in on their quality.

I hadn't noticed that. I double checked and the black stem comes with a silver mount.
The people at smoking pipes say the black stem is included so that you can smoke it regularly without worry about breaking the amber.
Personally, I have every intention of using the amber stem. But, that's because I buy pipes for their smoking qualities. I do like them to look good, but I'm not the type to buy a pipe just to display it.
Hopefully the amber does not break. I read in places that it is more sturdy than people give credit for. We'll see.
Here's a shot of the black with silver mount:
