I keep wanting an excuse to buy a premium cigar, so I am thinking of buying one for Veterans Day, to smoke in ritual tribute to those present and gone, in war and over the years, the homeless and those ripened in prosperity, and In special tribute to Allen and Thomas and others gone in their youth. That would make a holiday smoke. For holidays, my favorite pipe is one well broken in and packed with a reliable favorite tobacco, usually a burley blend or a choice Virginia blend. If I bought a holiday pipe, it would be one that would look appropriate at any time of the year, no red, white and green bands. My St. Pat's pipe is a Peterson Around the World bulldog commemorating Ireland. Around the holidays, I want a well-worn pipe that has seen some years or decades.

It just occurred to me that I have a half dozen Christmas pipes, in the form of pipes my wife gave me for Christmas -- my first churchwarden, on a different year my first Oom-Paul, my first freehand my first freehand cob, my Nording zebra hunting pipe, my largest pipe, a Johs XXL apple, what I think of, in tribute to my wife's years working in NYC, as my Big Apple, and so on.
