So, I popped into my local (ish) B&M to pick up a couple of tins of tobacco. I've finally smoked my way through the horde of samplers I ordered a couple of weeks ago now, and settled on Dunhill EMP and Pete' Connoisseurs Choice.
Somehow, I ended up walking out with a rather nice Pete' Donegal Rocky Rhodesian (or is it a Bulldog? I'm still not sure about these shape names...)


Nothing particularly fancy (certainly not a patch on a few I've seen on here recently - some major Pipe Envy going on...), but I rather like it.

Smoked a bowl of the Connoisseurs Choice when I got it home to start breaking in, and I must say it did rather well. Massive walls, so nice and cool to hold. Much warmer smoke than my Churchwarden, I guess the whole "long stem = cooler smoke" might have some weight to it.

(Yeah, us in the UK have to put up with a whole host of "smoking is evil" messages on our tobacco products).

Very nice, congrats! I would call that pipe, the 80s, a bent Bulldog. Rhodesians sport round shanks, Bulldog shanks have "edges"

Nice "80s" Peterson! And yes, it is a bulldog. The "80s" is a Peterson shape I've been wanting for a while now, and I must say, that Donegal is a mighty handsome example! Congrats!

Ah, I see! I thought Bulldogs were a bit taller, and Rhodesians were slightly squat.

At any rate, the box says 80s, but the owner wasn't too sure if it was the right box for the pipe.

I agree, Harris. It gets worse as well - not only do we have angry warnings on everything, but it's now the law that major shops (supermarkets, etc), have to cover up their tobacco displays, and I think the plan is to extend it to smaller shops in the next year or two. So plenty of places have big sliding shutter doors over the tobacco racks.

I'm hoping specialist tobacconists can avoid it - half the point of them is to have rows and rows of wonderful jars, tins and packets of tobacco, humidors full of cigars, and so on. Would be chaos if they had to hide them, and I'm sure would drive a few out of business.

Cool pipe. I wouldn't mind a bulldog down the track.
In Australia they now not only have the 'horror' pics on tobacco but that's all they have. Australia has what is called 'Plain packaging laws' which means the packets are without any branding whatsoever and are uniform in colour. This does pertain to cigarettes only at the moment but they are edging toward total prohibition.

Can't beat a trip to the tobacconist's. A lot of smokers of Peterson's aros seem to go for Connoisseur's, is it good?

Very nice ! Congrats on the new pipe . I have not seen any of those type warnings here in the US but it probably won't be long . I saw a commercial the other night that was how beautiful the world will be when smoking of any kind no longer exist !

I have last years Christmas Rhodesian and it smokes red virginias like a dream. Here's to many good smokes out of it.

Nice pipe and remember, if smoking those tobaccos doesn't kill you, it's probably making you stronger. I might pick up a tin of Connoisseur's Choice and cancel my gym membership.
