Love the P-lip! Oh, and the 999? Got to be one of my all time favorite pipes. I would say I reach for mine more often than any of my other pipes.

I love the 999 shape (mine is fishtail...). I had two p-lips and bailed early, selling/trading them. I don't really clench, so that wasn't the issue. These were both purchased early in my pipe smoking experience (didn't even really know what p-lip or fishtail meant..) and I suspect my lack of general pipe smoking experience soured me on that stem, more so than the p-lip itself. Maybe one day I'll give it another try.
Please do post your new 999, I never tire of looking at that shape.

Well since you already ordered it and didn't wait for my opinion, I ain't gonna tell ya. :nana:
I actually do not care for it, hopefully you will like yours. They are popular so you will probably enjoy it.

I have a Peterson Tankard that has a P-Lip system. It is a overall good pipe, but I still prefer a fishtail....

News flash......Plips have now been banned from pipe smoking. All existing Plips shall be cut down for normal smoking.

Never owned a p-lip but I'm sure I wouldn't mind it... Especially if it reduces tongue bite!

Like to buy 50 gram samples of different tobacco's. When I get one that bites the rest gets smoked in one of my Peterson P-lips. It makes all the difference. Some say with the P-lip that the tongue bite goes away only to be traded for a scorched pallete. Never has that problem myself. Those who don't like them usually mention the small diameter round stem as being the biggest reason. You gotta try one or you'll never know.

tongue & cheek/.... The history of the P-Lip is interesting. It was 1st invented by one Shaun O'Casey during the potato famine in Ireland. Radishes were not affected by the blight, and the entire O'Casey clan would slice a radish in half, stick the slice on the roof of the mouth, and proceed to smoke the P-Lip pipe, burn scalding the radish to perfection. This tradition remains alive today, minus the radish.

I found that the roof of my mouth was getting burned a little with my P-lips. As with anything it simply forced me to work on my technique. Slow and steady wins the race.

Much like the New York Yankees, Peterson's P-Lip design is typicallly a love or hate. Personally, I love the p-lip but some absolutely despise it. If you really like the style of the bowl and the band you might be able to just replace the stem to a fishtail if you don't like the p-lip.
