pipe, I think you did the right thing going with the fishtail. I hated my one P lip and gave the pipe away. It burned the roof of my mouth and the flavors were way off because the smoke was not hitting my tongue. Just make sure you go over your new Pete with a fine tooth comb before smoking it, look to make sure it is drilled spot on and make sure the stem is flush to the shank. Good luck with the new pipe.

Looked at a different way, the P-Lip is a good design, serviceable and traditional. But the Fishtail is

an exceptional design, so much so that we tend to consider it the default design. It works awfully

well, probably the best for most people. So here's a toast to the Fishtail, one of those aspects of the

pipe that is so good, we tend to take it for granted.

It came in Friday Harris. Drilling was perfect, nice flush fit on the stem, passes a pipe cleaver flawlessly, and first smoke was a one relight smoke that stayed nice and cool. Going to be a great pipe.

I have one P-lip which is a forever stem for a corn cob. It took a long time for me to adapt. I slapped on a softie bit and it works just fine.

pipebow88, love that Pete zulu. I bought a different zulu, but came close to buying that one. Love the shape.

I have the recent purchase and a 30-year-old unfinished Sav 404 zulu I bought 30 years ago, still going strong.

Now that this thread is resurrected, I must say I am not a fan of the P-Lip. Rumor has it that Mike at Briar Blues will have a Pete Premier System 302 Hallmarked to 1993 with sleeve, box, and advertisement paperwork in a late March update. He received the pipe today so I doubt it will make the March 1st update. Truly a fine pipe. It would still be on my rack if it had a fishtail.

All 3 of my Petes are P-Lips, but that's not why I chose them. I chose them for other characteristics and while I'm not a P-lip nut, I do like them. They hang in clenched teeth better than anything else- and other pipes I often get the fear that I could lose the grip and have them fall. Never had any problem with roof o' mouth bite either.
