The Scottish blend comments sucked me in. I like Mac Baren Scottish Blend - lol, I didn’t like this at all. Worth a try and got the tins on sale no no big deal.

How would you compare the Mac Barens to the 965?

I'm fairly partial to a Scottish blend, so I'd be interested to hear your comparison

My experience between MB, Match 20, and 965 is that they go lightest/most aro-like to stongest/most english-like in that order. I think I might be most partial to Match 20 but they’re all quite good.

I’ve never really liked “Scottish blend” as a descriptor because it’s even more nebulous than “English blend”. Mac Baren “Scottish Mixture” is an aromatic, not really in the same genre as 965.

Good point! And minus the Latakia so not the best comparison.

FWIW, dug out some Blue Ridge Special which I know I’ve enjoyed before - it’s described as a “Scottish Blend” and has some Latakia in it which I find as a nice complement in this flavorful blend and still like it!

Grabbed my large jar of well aged MB Scottish Blend and yep, the Virginia aroma reminds me why I like it as well and no idea why I tossed it into a 965 comparison - rookies, lol!

At the beginning of my pipe smoking the 965 was that tobacco which satisfied my smoking needs completely. I tried some Latakias after that, and couldn’t find a similar experience, maybe it depends on the brown cavendish. Midnight Ride by Dan Tobacco is one that gets closer I found out recently, but unfortunately I don’t like Latakias any more. Smoked to much of that. Now I tend to burleys, Kentuckys. Can’t resist to smoke Hamborger Veermaster also.
