That's a great looking pipe! I'm interested in Pete's but that coating is starting to make me reconsider!
I have a feeling they coat for aesthetics to hide stain spilled inside of the bowls. Probably in answer to complaints. Likely had a lot of inventory with bowl staining and that solves the problem. My guess.

But it comes right off after the initial smoke.

I was not bothered by the coating. However, it certainly seems like I am in the minority with that opinion. Glad you are enjoying the pipe!
I like it too. Seems to build an even cake for some reason. Taste slightly off at first but nothing major. Well enough to wonder if I maybe should have gone with the second pick instead nah it's a pretty pipe anyways. Only took a few smokes before that taste disapeared.

I like the hefty design on Petes. It just looks durable and solid in hand. I have two B11 bent brandy sitters, an Around the World red stain bulldog commemorating Ireland, a Donegal rusticated bent briar Calabash, and others. None have been trouble.

$88 whistle LOL

I hope your whistle is smoking good now.

Enjoy, looks nice. ?
It whistles to let me know if I draw too hard! For real. It keeps my cadence!

Two bowls so far. Rather flat flavor. I think no rinse for a couple of more smokes to build a little carbon up.

But it burns beautifully. Less relights after mid bowl than my others loaded the same way, same tobacco. Pipe cleaner inserted mid bowl was dry! It’s a really good smoker. Thanks

It’s great to know a blend really well.
Man, ain’t that the truth! I feel like so many pipe smokers keep searching for that “one” tobacco, their holy grail, that they end up neglecting some amazing blends that are right in front of their nose, looking for the next great blend, if only the time was taken to get to know a blend, but I can’t really claim any authority here, I spent many years buying and buying and buying and never really getting to know a blend, I mean truly getting to know it. There’s such great comfort in getting to know a blend well and even when ya do, that blend will still give you some surprises from time to time.

Nice pipe! I have a few Petes and enjoy them all. Honestly, the best smokers of mine are the entry-level Shannon, the standard system and the system spigot. The deluxe system and Newgrange Spigot, the two most expensive, aren't as good in terms of smoking quality. Petersons are highly collectable (I guess most pipes are), and now that you're in the club, make sure you check out the great Peterson Pipe Notes blog.

I don't mind their bowl coating. I prefer a nude bowl, but their coating seems neutral in taste and does seem to pick up a cake fairly quickly.

I think deep down most of us already know what that blend is, it’s the one we reach for most often.

But who wants to openly admit to Prince Albert or Golden Extra (insert tobacco)

There’s a blend or two that is the reason you look forward to your pipe, every-time.
