Hi, anyone have any personal experience with this pipe. I'm looking at a P lip. Never tried one before, but I've heard it slightly restricts draw and is better for those who do not clench. Also, read that Meerschaum in general helps absorb tars and acts like a filter. Restricting some tars from entering your mouth. All pluses for me. How correct is all this info? Thanks

I find P-lips to be restrictive but what I dislike more is the hole placement requires you to put the bit into your mouth deeper than I like. As for the absorbing tars aspect I'm not sure you would notice any difference. There is some absorption which is why they color but I doubt it's enough for you to detect. Meers do smoke cooler than briar. Why has been debated for years.

A P-lip fits nicely between my molars. I only smoke bents, any degree, and do not clench, the pipe simply rests between my teeth, jaw at rest. A P-lip facilitates such and is very comfortable for me. Not much difference though for me between the "lip" and a properly executed "fish tail." Not a fan of the tiny (thinner) bits as they do not fit my style of smoking.
I smoke meers exclusively when at home and seriously doubt there is any health benefit to such. Although it does visually demonstrate some of what you are absorbing through your mucus membranes as you smoke. In my experience a quality meer colors in the stem and the bottom of the bowl first, as a rule. Some opine that a meer smokes "drier". I've not purchased a meer in 20+ years so cannot opine on the quality of today's products. I've never owned a pipe of African meerschaum so can only speak to the Turk's products.
I do not believe you are losing any of the poisons, so don't worry about not getting a quality smoke or reducing taste. I think most of what seeps into the meer is minimal and not reducing the smoker's enjoyment to any measurable degree.

I only have one P-lip and have been meaning to have a fishtail stem fitted for it. What I dislike about it is what it does to the roof of my mouth, it does not take long before it feels horrible. It is hard to explain the sensation. It is not like tongue bite. It makes the roof of my mouth wrinkled. Sounds strange I know but I just don't like the damn thing and consequently never smoke the pipe because of the stem.
I much prefer a fishtail.

The bent P lips are difficult to get a cleaner through without removing the stem. Otherwise they are OK. I have the white set of 7 pipes in this series. They are well above average for meerschaums. Good plumbing, decent meerschaum. They do take much longer than briar before they give a great smoke. Eventually they do smoke very well.

You should have bid higher and let the price come down to your bid. You should have won the PIPE.

PS: If You really wanted the Pipe You should have bid with way more conviction and a lot less fear.

Yep, that's almost all I've read and heard. Anyway, I found another new Meerschaum Sherlock Holmes with a fishtail! Wish me luck. Biding higher this time. Also looking at a couple of Turkish makes.
