Its so strange that some folks are so hardline against Peterson having nothing but problems, while some swear by them.
I've got a 1950 Peterson... Canadian? that's been on the bench for awhile. Now I'm going to be throwing it under a microscope looking for flaws!

Same here. I'm gonna look over my Pete's with a magnifying glass, because I've never noticed a pit in any of my Irish Harps or any other smooth Peterson, and they all smoke great.

So far, I myself pretty much swear by them. I've been very happy with my Petes. But I also still believe mistakes are made. In the case of Al's pipe especially, I think it's a mistake that shouldn't have been overlooked. If it were my pipe, if it were a very minor flaw somewhere on the bowl, it may well not bother me so much. But the location of the flaw on Al's pipe adds to the annoyance of it. It would be an eyesore every time I looked down at that bowl.
I also still believe some people complain about Peterson simply to complain about Peterson because someone else is. But I don't believe that to be the case in this example. And then again, that being said, I also believe that in the era of social media we see dang near every flaw in dang near every pipe that has one that leaves the factory! Whereas without social media you might still never see one.

If you’re referring to me, I don’t think I could be any clearer about why I posted. It certainly wasn’t to give input on your or anyone else’s purchases.

As you said, twas only your opinion. But, you also castigated Peterson's business practices which led some to rise up in defense or join in to voice their agreement. And, there was your suggestion to Peterson as to how to change their business model to improve the product line. They have been and continue to be successful in spite of their, as some perceive, inability produce q1uality pipes.
Your post was interesting and, of course, generated the widely divergent responses above. Surely, with three years of membership, you expected nothing different, All the other similar posts over the years have, as the membership, myself included, cannot resist the siren call. We can't resist even though we know we are going to cover the same ground anew. The challenge is to find different words and cite alternative circumstances to stave off the boredom.

Holy cow, this threads has grown some legs.
I totally get the op’s point. We know SPC scans the forum. I think it’s entirely possible SPC may take the comments here onboard and pass them on. I imagine the response at Peterson would be something along the line of “fookin twahts”.
Me? I won’t buy a Pete without either having a 360 view and a good return option or a full inspection from a trusted vendor. For this release, one couldn’t have asked for a better vendor than

Smokingpipes.

An unsmoked, 999 Amber Spigot just sold on Ebay, for $264...so much for an investment. (Smoking Pipes had them at the lowest price $456 and most Euro dealers had them at $499 or so)

I was watching that one, it was at 190 until the end. I thought it would hit $250, pretty close.
Maybe if it wasn’t dip stained it would have gone higher.
