I originally bought this tin in mid to late 2017. I opened and found the contents to be too harsh. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and tuck it into a mason jar and check back in on a later date.
Well, that later date has come and the results are the same. I struggle to find any redeeming quality with this blend. For me, this came across as harsh and distinctly cigarette-ish. I am contributing that to the burleys but could be wrong. There was the occasional minor dark fruit note but it was very minor and very fleeting. The perique is peppery and will certainly tingle the nose on the retrohale. I will say there were moments when the bowl hit the last third that the blend started to have some sense of clarity but it was always fleeting. I found myself chasing something that could not be found. I wish there was something better to say but I got nothing. This blend gets one out of four stars for me.
I am of the type that will typically soldier through tins that are not to my taste but I am leaving those ways behind. I have close to half a tin that I will happily mail out to anyone in the CONUS that would like to give Irish Oak a try. Just shoot me a message.
