Peterson Early Production 1970's - 1980's Pipe

As I held this pipe in my hands I could feel the quality in craftsmanship shine through from the fine folks at Peterson's Of Dublin. Here is my newly restored Peterson Dunmore #74. I've devoted this pipe to aromatics. First trail smoke will be with Peterson's Sunset Breeze.
The early Dunmore series was first produced in the 1970/1980s. At this time the distinctive beading was on the shank of the pipe.

Quote from the 1980 Catalog :- “Beautifully grained best quality briar in light brown matte or rustic finish".

Here is the pipe before. Shameful to be in such a condition!

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but what does on IRC on this Peterson stand for?

I was wondering that too Dur. I know Iwan Ries in Chicago stamps there pipes IRC, but I'm unsure why they would be stamping Peterson's.
Oh btw. Great looking birdseye on that lady. I don't think I've ever seen a crenelation like that on a Peterson before.

Exactly my thoughts. The carved crenelation and the stem/shank connection makes me wonder whether the pipe, perhaps, had a band that was removed/lost at some point. Regardless, that's a beautiful piece of briar, and I hope it smokes well for you Durham. Nicely done, man.

Thanks lowercase for finding that out! Very interesting indeed.
As far as the crenelation is concerned, it was always on the shank end. Once the newer line of Dunmore were reintroduced the distinctive beading was moved to the top of the bowl instead.

Beautiful restoration. I have never heard of this range before either, but can certainly attest to the quality of the older Petersons.

The pipe seems to have a stem in the "style" of the system stems, but appears to be a push fit tenon rather than the military style stems.

Petes03, good question. Nope, they are not. These pipes were only designed from the shapes of original system pipes is my understanding.
