Kintsugi. That has given me ideas, sometimes a dangerous thing, but I have a large ceramic bowl that I dropped and this is the way forward. Thanks!
I had a Kurt Balleby bulldog with a cracked horn adornment which had been stabilized prior to sale by Adam Davidson at Smokingpipes. However the crack was more obvious than it seemed in photos. My buddy Neal Osborn suggested that I consider accepting the flaw in the manner of the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, which is what Kintsugi is about. Ultimately, I couldn't do it and returned it. I have regretted returning that pipe ever since.

Looks like a job for pipe mud and a coat of Peterson Pipe Notes' All Purpose Bowl Coating.

"The APBC has scored a clean-tasting smoke on every pipe I’ve tested it on since October, significantly beyond what I’ve achieved with the isopropyl alcohol soak method. Why this should be so I can’t tell you.

I suspect the activated charcoal acts as an additional sweetener by allowing the chamber to absorb the good flavors of the fresh tobacco while simultaneously masking the ghost underneath."

It does work great, but be aware, if you do go the OG method, one of the ingredients is urushiol...that's the itchy stuff in poison oak!

Looks like it's not overly compatible with wood.... Can Wood and Lacquerware Be Repaired with Kintsugi? Common Pitfalls in - https://kintsugi-kit.com/blogs/tsugu-tsugu-columns/kintsugi_on_wood

That is one dead pipe.

In the image you uploaded there’s a subtle discoloration surrounding the crack that looks like heat damage.

I think xrundog is correct. The split was already there, created by either too hot smoking, a significant flaw in the briar, or a combination of both that widened due to being subjected to the s/a treatment. It’s known to happen.

It’s a shame, but looks like a burn through had already begun.

Dry wood of any kind suck up moisture of any kind. Usually, it takes 3 months to bring bagpipes that hasn't played back to life. If that pipe was dried from non-use, it could have cracked from a silent fart.
