I found a sister pipe to my 411 Bullcap. This 407 is a Kapet and had the identical 1947-1949 COM. It was advertised as NIB, but it had been smoked - so that eliminated the dilemma of "should I smoke it"?. Of course I should!

Again, Mark Irwin to the rescue with this 1925 catalog page showing the shape. I'm still puzzled that there are zero Peterson catalog scans on the web. Mark hopes to remedy that with some reprints of key catalogs.

This one came with a period box, bag and literature (different shape number).

@sam: Yes, the "Junior" line apparently all had stingers or innertubes (my Bullcap has the Dunhill style innertube)

I smoke the Bullcap with the innertube, but suspect I'll remove this apparatus.

Al, what about modifying the 'apparatus' to be more conventionally located short of the bowl, by removing it from the stem and cutting some of from that end? It looks perfectly fine, except that it extends into the bowl.

Could it be a 'replacement' or cannibalized Pete stem from a different model?

Wow, first time I see a Pete with an aluminum inner tube. I had no idea! I thought it was only a Dunhill thing.

Mark Irwin confirms the stem is original, as is the stinger. It's wonderful to have the premiere Peterson authoritarians help! Someone must have ordered with the optional fishtale stem. I'm more of a P-lip guy and I'm curious to compare the smoking of the two nearly identical pipes.
I mulled over cutting the stinger, but hate to do so from a collectors perspective. I'll try it with the stinger in place.
