I’m planning on picking up a Peterson system pipe as my next major pipe purchase, and am torn between the 307 and the 314, I want a decent sized pipe but nothing too massive and it’s hard to determine the size difference from pictures online.
Those of you who might own both, which do you prefer?

Pictures would be much appreciated.
I currently have a Dr. Grabow Omega, which I find a bit small, but enjoy quite a bit, if anybody has one of those for comparison that would help immensely as well.
Thank you.

Your Omega is probably a Grabow shape 47 so the 314 would be similar in dimensions but beefier and with a larger chamber.

The 314 is not a large pipe. This one is from 1980, 42 grams.

I have a 70's version, bowl size seems just right for m, easily holds two ps flakes. I like it a lot!

I own both. They both have their place.
The 307 is substantially bigger and heavier. If I'm out and about, or working on something its the 314 because its lighter and I can clench it effortlessly. If I can put the pipe down or hold it in my hands a lot of the time, its the 307. There is no doubt that my 307 smokes better than my 314, but that may be due to the fact that it's a pre republic while the 314 is 1980's vintage or that the walls of the 307 are much thicker. Having said that, the 314 always gives me a good smoke, just a notch below the 307. If I had to choose just one, it would be the 314 for versatility, but I think you should have both in your rotation eventually. I'll try to get a picture showing both pipes next to a ruler so you can get a better perspective.

I have a 307 and a 312 (which I think is similar in size to the 314?)
I would offer comments similar to Bassbug, and although both mine smoke about the same I like the 307 a bit more since it is an impressive size and great for armchair smokes.

Hi guys,
I haven't logged on in a long time, I can't see the photos above. Am I the only one that can't see them or do I have some settings wrong? I'm interested in a pete 314 or 317 and was hoping to find some size comparison photos. I have a 312 but would like something smaller.

Many of the images didn't make it through the forum upgrade. They are performing rituals of digital black magic currently in an effort to remedy that.

The images hosted by outside sources have mostly transferred over and, if not, it is due to matters of those third party sites out of our control.

The forum photo albums from our old site are not a feature available with the new site and those images are the ones that the staff are working to bring back to the threads. Note that the albums themselves will not return, but, with luck, the images that were posted in actual threads may eventually re-emerge.
