Hi everyone,

I’ve just met with the father of an old friend of mine who used to smoke pipe and started to share my adventure in the pipe smoking world.
Surprisingly he talked about a trip to New York where he was at the DeLaConcha store (I believe it’s now closed permanently) and where he was challenged to make it’s own mixture. He accepted the challenge and was asked to give a name to it, so he went with “Tropical Mist”.
After a few more minutes he said to me he might still have some of that tobacco in the house. We went to his apartment and after looking around he found what you see in the pictures below.
Since we are talking about a mixture made around 30/35 years ago, I was wondering what kind of attention this tobacco might need before smoking.
It has always been inside the plastic can you see and wrapped around a plastic foil. Smells intense and seems to still be moist. The bag seems to have pipe cleaners rolled upon themselves on the inside(don’t know if this has something to do some kind of moist absorption process)

Thanks for the help.

You'll never know until you open it. One would expect that it may need some hydration, but I have opened many cans that didn't need anything from that era. I expect with a name like Tropic Mist it is an aromatic. I wouldn't expect too much from this blend, but you never know.

Indeed it is… he said it had a touch of vanilla and I can surely smell it once I open the can.
He also said that after a few years he went back to NY and that the name of Tropical Mist was a wide spread name in the pipe smoking community where he used to hang around near the store which was very close to Central Park( I’ve never been there so I can’t confirm).
