I'm sure this question, or some form of it, has been posted, so forgive my redundancy if that is the case. I've heard that you should never smoke Perique in a pipe that you smoke other non-perique blends in because it will leave the flavor of perique lingering in your pipe. I've recently bought some nice perique blends and am curious if there is any truth to this before I light them up So what do you say, malarky or something worth considering?

Never heard of such a thing. I smoke va and va/perique in dedicated va pipes but have never set aside a pipe for just perique containing blends. I've never noticed a perique ghost in any pipes.

I have never noticed a Perique blend ghosting a pipe. However; I have dedicated one pipe to smoking Perique blends because it is wonderfully suited to them. My Uncle Arthur Tapered Apple is marvelous in this capacity. The Perique flavor is so clear and delicious in it. But, I do and will smoke Perique in any pipe that I want to.

Since perique tends to be mostly a condiment in blends it should not ghost a pipe although I don't think I could smoke just straight perique, that may do it.

I smoke Virginia, Va/Per and English Blends in all pipes without regard to what has been previously smoked in them. Never had a problem. Now Irish Flake, St Bruno or any other real strong tobacco, including cased, I keep a couple of small bowled pipes that are dedicated to the strong blends.

The only tobaccos I have had any ghosting with are either heavy aromatics of lakelands. One of my pipe cabinets contains a selection exclusively for lakeland blends. Other than that I don't set aside pipes for particular blends.

Pure malarkey. I smoke whatever blends in just about any pipes. I do not dedicate pipes - but I have found some tobaccos burn/smoke better in certain pipes. I am sure this is purely a subjective thing - since no pipe is created to smoke just one type or style of tobacco. As far as ghosting goes - I find that if I thoroughly clean a pipe after every smoke - ghosting is minimal or disappears completely after a good rest and few smokes.
