Since you're coming from the aromatics side, Prairie Wind would be a good introduction to VaPers - sweet & fruit-like, but not "aromatic". [:puffy:]
To continue down this line of thought, I would suggest Seattle Pipe Clubs Mississippi River - although liberally spiked with Perique, the sweet Red Va's are at the forefront of this blend.
Blakeney’s Best Acadian Ribbon (McClelland)

I keep meaning to try this, I love the Bayou Slice (and in fact, would recommend it here too!).

just opened a bag of esoterica dunbar. i was really put off by the "tin" note - thinking "wow i hope it doesn't smoke anything like it smells. i had bought it with the intention of jarring it for a while but i had to try some just to make sure i hadn't made a mistake. on smoking it i'd say it's very nice. a bit milder than escudo and bullseye flake in the perique department but had a bit of a tongue bite to it. we'll see how it ages.
i had intended to try a couple other esoterica flavors but seems they're hard to find - grrr. any of you experts have recommendations on how long to keep the dunbar jarred? i got a tin of the mclelland christmas cheer as well but won't be opening that for a while.

So far my take is that Escudo Navy Deluxe is extremely delicious and tasty. Solani Blend #633 is good too. Dunbar is ok; maybe too mild for me..... Not really sure what you mean by light, but none of the above hit me in a vitamin N soft spot.
