rickpal14, Pembroke is quite good (it's essentially Margate treated with Cognac) although it's rather rich. Germain is one of my two favorite blenders; they simply produce fantastic stuff.

I've been working on the last of some bulk Penzance from about 2,maybe 3 years ago. It's definitely a winter smoke for me. By next fall the tins I have been aging will be ready to go. :puffpipe:

Thanks tedswearingen.
Two tins of Penzance inbound, along with a resupply of FMOTT.
I really need to get to Myrtle Beach one day.

I found 50gram tins at cupojoes.com but they only allow one tin per purchase. Does anyone know how to get a hold of an 8oz bag, or bulk?
Sadly, I think I'm just too late into the game with this one...

Thanks Rickpal14!
I'm gonna try and order a tin from cupojoes in a few hours, once my paycheck gets direct deposited into my account.

But if for some reason that doesn't work, I'll  definitely shoot ya a pm. Very kind of you, thanks!

First off being the rookie I am ... What is "penzance"? what kind of baccy is it? etc, etc, etc
It is the king of the English/Latakia blends in the minds of many. It works like this:
1. Someone sends you a sample of Penzance

2. You try said sample and are blown away

3. You search for months trying to find any and come across a tin in a local B&M

4. You purchase this tin, but do not open it, oh no, it is too precious

5. A week later you are shocked to find an 8oz bag at another local B&M

6. You purchase that and jar it up thinking how much you're going to enjoy it in the coming months

7. For the next six months you smoke everything but that Penzance, you stare at it and long for it, but it is like precious gold and not to be wasted
Well, that's how it worked for me anyway.

Hey folks, I too recently acquired a few tins of penzance and have since had the time to enjoy a few bowls. I know a few bowls is not enough for a full fledge review, but I thought I'd just jot down some thoughts and see what others think.
First off, this tobacco is a lot more mild than I expected (in body and flavor, nicotine was about medium). Certainly there is a good deal of complexity - starting very nutty and slightly smokey, and salty/savory - mid-bowl gets more of that delicious incense-like quality as well as an almost perfume character that is unique to this blend in my experience, but still retains the savory saltiness - toward the end of the bowl everything seems to just get richer. Smokiness gets deeper, tastes shift between smokey, salty/savory, and sandalwood/incense. A spicy-peppery sensation also makes itself present at times, and I would definitely believe someone if they told me that there was a touch of perique in here, though its not listed in the ingredients. Overall I really enjoy it, it smoked better after letting it sit for a couple hours to dry out. It didn't have nearly the lat-kick that I expected, but that's okay. This certainly meets the criteria of an all day smoke for me - its relatively light in both body and nicotine (though I rarely smoke all day). I got a bit of bite if I puffed too hard, but it was definitely my own fault when it did happen. I'm looking forward to popping the other tins over time and seeing if it changes at all.
I guess the only turn off I have with this blend is the toasted marshmallow/salty/nuttiness that it sometimes produces, this is especially noticeable if taking a whiff of the bowl the next day.

lol Well said. In the mean time while storing it like precious gold, you elevate it in your mind to the point of where everything else is a kind of a disappointment despite the fact that we're living in the golden age of great pipe tobaccos. Penzance is extraordinary, but it is just one in a field of extraordinary tobaccos.

Including Penzance - I think this blend has become so over-hyped to the newer smoker that one expects the flakes to be like smoking a slice of heaven; and well it is a damned fine English, I just don't see it as the be-all end-all blend that some do (I also know I'm not the only one who feels this way). In all honesty, I found the blend to be slightly monotone, and really lacking the depth of flavour the more Oriental forward Lat blends offer. Of course, to each his own, as Mr. Pease says, one mans fish is another mans poisson; and hey, at least you know your not fighting with me to get that last tin/foil-bag!
OK Hobie; I'm ready for you to collect that pound of flesh now...
