Penzance Question

I happened apon a bit of penzance (8oz) today. I'm sure that the bag was sealed before I opened it because the outer bag smelled like the cigar lounge and the inside of the bag well smelled like a good tobacco. My problem is there seems to be like these little white pieces on the fakes which kinda look like mold. Is this normal for penzance?

If it is very old that is most likely sugar crystals. If it were mold it would smell nasty!

It's fairly common for Penzance, as unclearthur said, it's just sugar.

Uncle Arthur is correct, Penzance grows sugar crystals.

Well I bought a pound 8 oz to smoke and the other 8 oz to sell but now it seems like its not that much of an hard thing to grab theres a bunch on ebay right now and there not going up yet. I guess just a bad investment on my part. DAMN good smoke though.

Every now and then it's in stock at retailers. I gave in the neighborhood of that ebay price with it's shipping for a few bags a couple of weeks ago.

I've got some old Stonehaven that has what looks like sugar crystals in it as well!!!

Virginia tobaccos are high in sugars and with aging the sugars tend to form crystals. No biggie at all.

My 8 oz bag had the white powder all over the flakes. The pipe store, after looking at pics that I sent them, said it was mold and they are replacing. The oder wasn't normal Penzance, it was somewhat sour. I am sending them the old bag back when I get the new. I guess they will let me know if it really isn't mold. I have never had this happen to any of my penzance before. I didn't want to chance smoking it.

Mold can often lool like little mushrooms under decent magnification.

I have thought that the white powdery substance on the Esoterica flakes is

some sort of aid for not having the tobacco stick to the cutting blades.

Every tin/ bag of Penzance I have opened thus far has had this same thing. I pretty sure it is not mold. Although if Penzance were mold I would likely still smoke it.

I'm pretty sure tobacco mold is green. White crystals are called plume and form on cigars often.

I haven't been able to find a shop that sells anything Esoterica or Lane yet.
But I get paid on Thursday and it'll be time to send away for some.
Since this qualifies as a 'penzance question' I'll ask it here:
What are the trustworthy online sites to buy the stuff?
It appears to be sold out/out of stock all over.
and why do I have the funny feeling anyone who knows a place that's selling it will hoard the URL like it's a matter of national security? LOL
