Never have I ever broken or float tested a phone. I've seen it done by so many others, guess in just lucky and more careful.

I almost did the same thing yesterday at our pool. I always pat my pockets like a dozen times before I get in. I think people think I have a condition or something.
As I was reading this I thought you were going to say something horrible like "I just got out of the pool and felt something in the pocket of my trunks. Yep, it was my Michael Parks latest commission...." Glad to hear it was just your phone pal.

I traded my Iphone 5 for a Note 2 and love it! I would have went swimming with my Iphone in my pocket on purpose just to get rid of that thing lol
No trunks is a great way to keep those phones high and dry!
I just remembered our best phone dunking - the eldest daughter was standing in the pool, talking on her phone. I said "not a good idea to use the phone in the pool". So, she chucks it out on a chaise lounge, it hits dead center and bounces right back into the pool. The jar of rice didn't work on that one either.

Rice works as does a hair dryer, just not on phones that have been totally submerged for more than a few seconds. I speak from experience(s). I'm slow to learn.
Not germane to the OP but, my iPhone resides in a fitted "Otter Box" case. The box enlarges the profile and increases the weight a bit. These changes outweigh the advantages. I've dropped my phone into ponds and marshes, it's been fully submerged for up to 30 seconds or so and, when retrieved, worked fine. This is why I try to always wear flannel with flap and snap pockets. This way the phone stays with me when I fall in while crossing a creek and all my concentration is on keeping lenses and cameras above water.

The rice trick used to work with phones with removable battery covers. You popped off the cover, popped out the battery, and used a can of compressed air to blow out as much moisture as possible. Then you placed the phone in a bag of dry rice. Voila! Good as new.
These smart phones are designed by dumb people, or maybe these people are smart because they make sure that your phone will need to be replaced if anything unfortunate happens.

I think a pocket big enough for a credit card or a few pieces of folded currency is a good idea,
with an annoying button to remind you to think about what you're putting in there, like maybe not
your Rolex or your cell phone. Not being critical of peck; this is just my kind of screw-up. Though
I don't have to worry about a Rolex, but maybe a Timex with the oversize numbers.
