From what I understand you can do a coin test but I would never feel comfortable doing it. Something like scraping a coin on it and if a mark is left it is pressed. IMO it's a good way to scratch your pipe. I think there are other ways but I'm not too sure on them.

Hi,
There is no pressed meerschaum pipes for a long time except gourd meerschaum bowls and meerschaum linings which is used on meerschaum lined briar pipes.
You just need to think the grade of the block meerschaum.It is very difficult to find premium grade block meerschaum except just a few company
