Hi all,

So I'm fairly certain the answer on this is a resounding "It's dead" but I got my first pipe last year and noticed after the purchase it had a small crack in the shank. I didn't think it was that big a deal, but at this stage the pipe leaks from the bottom most crack and the pin hole. If there is any way I can repair it, I would prefer to do so, as this was my first pipe and holds some sentiment. The first picture shows the hole, smoke does leak out of this area. The second shows how deep and wide the upper crack in the shank is, though it doesn't seem to have issues with leaking. The third shows both the crack in the second pic and the crak at the bottom which is leaking. Last pic is the full assembly.

Would that be safe enough to do? I'm newer to the hobby, and just want to make sure it wouldn't get hot enough that it may cause issues with the superglue?

Yes. Superglue those pinholes
Should be safe as you are not applying to high temperature areas

As for the shank - see if you can band it
Without a band it will eventually re-crack because you are removing and reinserting the stem constantly

Superglue for the holes will do the job. For the crack in the shank I maybe wouldn’t do anything, as long it holds the stem in place. I’ve got two pipes with similar cracks, and in both cases they don’t move further.

Maybe the tenon was a little bit too tight anyways, or the wood shrinked, because it dried out. Just keep an eye on it. When it’s going further down the shank you can stop it by drilling a millimetre hole at the end of the crack to take off the tension, then glue it from outside. Maybe secure it further with a band, as ozpiper describes.
