Patriotism: What Would We Do

There's a lot of complex history in the region. If I remember correctly, Crimea was part of Russia that was ceded to the Ukrainian Socialist Republic by Khrushchev in the 1950's as a sort of brotherly gesture between members of the same unhappy family. Would that have happened if the Soviets had any inkling that the country would break up a few decades later? The majority of the population identify with being Russian and would have an affinity for aligning with Russia.
As for the definition of patriotism that is given in the letter, I agree with the bulk of it.

I respect soldiers because they're following orders, I don't respect the authority that makes them fight. And America used to refer to Stalin as "Uncle Joe"

I think the question was: What would "we" do?
The majority of American Sheeple would do as they were told: Get in line, men here, women and children way over there, remove their shoes and pants, and wait for their government flu shot and micro chip, then get on whatever bus they were told to get on.

One of the many wonderful things about this country is that we have the right to express our beliefs, rather than be forced to parrot some party line, regardless of which party it is. I may not agree with everyone's opinion but I'll respect and defend a person's right to express theirs. If you agree with this then cease the "Go back to Russia" stuff.
