Cortez was active here until fairly recently, haven't seen much of him for the last year of so. I do miss his posts. He was funny and knowledgeable, and always willing to help other members here.
People come and go one forums. They go through life events that take precedence, get interested in other topics, or get bored when there's too much repetition of the same topics. Sometimes thay take a sabbatical from the forum and return and sometimes they don't return.
"too much repetition of the same topics" indeed!

We've had some memorable women members. Perhaps some who represented as women weren't, but I think maybe most were. I joined in 2013, and I remember a woman with the handle something like Dirty'Ho. I do believe she was a woman, perhaps from a hard-life background, but she had accurate and interesting observations and a fairly wide pipe smoking experience. I enjoyed seeing her posts. She was around for about five years, and then never again. The "boys club" aspect of Forums didn't phase her at all. She had her say and that was that. I wish her well.

Is goes with the territory. People interested in learning about pipe smoking join fora like this one and ask the same basic questions. A Google search like "pipesmagazine pipe cleaning" "pipesmagazine cleaning a pipe" will yield the 20,000 previous threads, but that would be too much work.

I know, I'm being politically incorrect and just not nice, and I don't actually care.

Uncle Arthur stole thousands of dollars from members for pipes he never delivered.

There was legal actions, if I remember correctly.

I don't recall if any were successful. This would have been in 2012-2013 time frame.
You have been lurking this long???

I’ve been hanging around here enough to see most of these people listed come and go.

I often wondered what ever happened to Nate. N8? From Alabama? Was it the Strang buy?

I recall he had some struggles, but somehow he went from being very active then just disappearing into the ether.

Enough people join to maintain quite a conversation, but quite a few don't post much or at all, while others get right in step.

I think there are about twenty original posts that get repeated by every new wave of new members, though with the turnover, repetition probably serves the many new arrivals. For that reason, I feel justified in repeating myself from time to time, though I mostly try to avoid that.

Such is life, the reasons people come and go on any online community are as varied as tobacco opinions. Some prefer to remain obscure because it's safe, this thread demonstrates the semi permanent record of events. Or rather remain quiet than remove all doubt. When I snap it'll be one of those "wow, did not see that coming" affairs ??

Many a motive for logging in for the first time and introducing one's self. I don't have to name them. It seems to me that a majority of the folks hardly post past the introduction, maybe I'm just being daft. I've used the search function (not bragging) but I've also marveled at how often the entire thread result will sometimes have a bevy of members who are not currently posting.

Personally I'm thoroughly entertained and continually educated for hours on end here, that's enough.

Who was that genial guy who was murdered by his grandson who started a fire in his house? That whole story was terribly sad. Apparently he'd taken in his wayward grandson hoping to put him on the straight & narrow with fatal consequences.

Oldreddog from Dublin was another really nice guy. It was through him I was able to buy some of the last genuine Condor plugs (before they went Polish)....still have some of them in a jar.

Deathmetal also was a nice guy. I sent him some baccy once and always loved his posts.

Regards,

Jay.

Uhhh…Jay…
Deathmetal was a white supremacist who spewed all sorts of mental stuff on his blog, including praise for the Christchurch slaughter.

If that’s your idea of nice…
