Well just picked up a Stanwell second Royal Danish #910. The bottom of the stem lip was chewed through. No way to patch it so decided to make an attempt at making a new lip. So far so good.

Sorry about the first picture I used my cell phone. As you can see the bottom of the lip as a good chunk missing.

Filling down to make the lip.

Starting to give it more shape.

Next I need to start with the oxidation removal and fill in the crown on the side of the stem. Once complete with those steps it will be time to polish. Part II coming soon.

Nice work Jonesee! Can't wait to see the finished job. I've got a Stanwell Golden Danish Dublin. They are nice pipes.
edit: Nice macro photos also.

Excellent work, thanks for posting, I'll be looking out for part 2!
I have a couple of Royal Danish pipes and they smoke like champs, that's one reason they're always found so heavily smoked, because they seem to smoke so good!
Does your #10 look like this, with the fancy stem?

...or a different style?

They had a few variations on the #10 shape through the years.

Great job on that stem! I have a couple of stems on my bench that need the same treatment, I just haven't been in the mood for them. :D

Yeah, most the Royal Danish series had those little side patches, like leather elbows on the professors sportscoat. I found a 63M that was pretty trashed that's turned out to be one of my better smokers.
I sanded & re-stained the smooth part and it looks alot nicer. My stem still has some gnarly tooth indents, which I heat-treated and slightly sanded, but i think I need to do the superglue rebuild treatment eventually, although it doesn't really bother me too much 'cause my chompers fit the indent pretty well!
You're doing some good work and big props for havin' the balls to tackle such a major task!
Don't forget to post the updates!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. After 18 years in the Navy building ordnance there is not too much I am afraid to try. I find restoring them is just as relaxing as smoking them.

Nice job. It took me a while to build up the nerve to remake a bit. But that's nothing for you compared to your old job! Looking forward to part 2.
