Have we ever had Pipesmagazine.com paraphernalia available? I just think it would be cool if we had our own zippos, tampers, pipes, smoking jackets, free Dunhills for members, etc. Just a thought.

This has been suggested a number of times since I have been here. At least once it got quite negative with several members at the time leaving with feelings hurt amongst other things. Kevin has made it clear what his stance is on this kind of thing. Just best to say that it is not a happening thing at the current time.

I'm not sure I understand how people could be upset if something was made available for purchase to all participants. Maybe I'm not getting the overall dynamic of the forum yet. Either way, sorry if I brought up a sore spot.

There aren't any sore spots. It just seems that merchandising does not fit the PM.com business model.

There are probably all sorts of legal and financing considerations involved that I'm not even vaguely aware of

(product liability, insurance, taxes, trade name protection, etc.)
The original brouhaha was over a renegade plan to market a PM.com Pipe Of The Year. The folks involved

were denied permission to use the name, and they left in a snit.
It's easy to lose sight of the fact that this site isn't just a private blog that became wildly popular.

It is a business, with a parent company, staff, legal people, etc.
(Anyhowwwww... need some license plate brackets?)

(You think that's silly? Lawrence is stuck with several gross of PM.com propeller beanies!)

Corporate gifts are thrilling. Little note pads and stickies, pens, small staplers, and calendars. How else is Kevin going to get his innovation across without mundane, generic corporate gifts? Kids these days.

BTW, my previous post is based purely on my own conjecture. I don't think Kevin ever went "on the record"

with a public explanation of his business plan. If you read the fine print at the bottom of this page

you will notice that the e-magazine's copyright is owned by "Right Click Media, LLC."

Kilted, Adam... Cortez is pulling your chain about the license plate frames.

To merchandize is a monumental task and isn't part of the business model.

This subject arrises from time to time.

That's why there is following in the Forum Rules:
Unauthorized PipesMagazine.com Merchandise
5. We cannot have unauthorized production of any type of goods or services with the PipesMagazine.com name on them.
PipesMagazine.com is copyrighted intellectual property.
Anything that is developed, produced, marketed or distributed with the PipesMagazine.com name or likeness must either be owned by or licensed by Right Click Media, LLC and authorized by Kevin Godbee.

Thanks Lawrence, and again I think some folks have misunderstood, thinking that I was looking for cheap freebies. On the contrary, I was inquiring about branded items that could be made available for purchase, much like other forums or clubs have offered in an effort to promote membership, etc. Thanks for the clarification everyone.
