Hi I have a pair of Barling 1960's pipes Numbered 2171 - Brand new in a case. They have never been smoked and were left to me by my Grandfather but I am not a smoker. Both the pipes and case are as new. I can supply photos but cant see how to do it on here. EDITED - NO SELLING IN THIS SECTION.

Hi, Chris.
Welcome to the forum.
We'd all love to see such fine pipes. Please share some pics when you have a chance.
Also, don't be surprised or offended if this thread gets closed or deleted.
The site rules require minimum 4 months and 100 posts to initiate trade.
It's how we keep the fly by night shysters out.
That said, there are some trusted resources you can use right now. The sponsors links on the left edge of the home page are a good place to start.
Check with Pipestud, Mikelaw, Blue Room and others there for possible consignment. They are all honorable tradespeople.
JPM will be along soon to school you on sharing pics.
Jesse (sablebrush) is the Barling authority and will likely sniff this out soon.

My pleasure!
Once your photos are on a photo hosting site (such as Imgur.com; Postimage; Dropbox, etc. Photobucket), or on virtually any site, (including this site's album) such as eBay, Amazon, you-name-it, select the full sized image, then Control-click (Mac) or Right-click (Windows) on the image itself, then choose "copy image location" or similar words. Now paste that URL (the full web address, which should end in .jpg or .png) into the IMG box in the reply window of the thread you're posting to.
The site's album is also a good choice for displaying photos, and the same method works for obtaining the image's URL for copying into the IMG box.

Believe me my husband couldn't smoke a pipe if he tried he'd ruin them - I have fond memories of my grandfather smoking his and would rather they went to a good home :?

Smoked or unsmoked, I couldn't sell them...too sentimental. Unless of course he had many pipes...then I would keep some and sell some.
I have my grandfather's pocket watch given to him from my grandmother as a gift. She bought it for him and had it engraved in 1912...it still works. He carried it with him everyday for many years. I will never part with it. It is the only item of his I have. I want it to go to my grandson when I'm gone.
Good luck.

Oh he had many pipes and we have everything else that we remember fondly - these were in a box just hidden away but we have all the things that we remember him by - he never smoked these we still have his old favourites and would never part with them

This is a very nice set, and it's rare to see an unsmoked cased set from this period. They look like they could have been made at the Barling factories, based on the shaping and the stem work. But it's hard to be certain, based on the images provided. Are there any other stampings on the pipes, like a TVF or MADE IN ENGLAND stamp?
Personally, I'd be inclined to keep them as a remembrance. They're worth some money, but not a huge amount as Barlings from this period are not highly collectible. Nothing to do with the quality of the pipes, but collectors will kill each other to get their hands on a family era set and not look at a later set. That said, an unsmoked cased companion set will be worth more than a single unsmoked pipe. The set is no earlier than late 1962. More info on any remaining stamps might help me to further refine the date. If you want to PM me, I can share some thoughts on values, but it would only be an informed shot in the dark.
