Painting a Cob

I have a couple unsmoked cobs I want to paint, and I was wondering what type of paint I should use if I still want to smoke them in the future?

I only plan on painting the outside, would acrylic paint be a bad idea?

Acrylic would be fine. I've also seen nail polish used.

you can use a Sharpie, it's just an alcohol dye.
