Paid The Wrong Person

That's odd. I did the same thing about a month ago. I went in to my PayPal account and it let me cancel the transaction. It was a personal gift transaction too. If I remember correctly I went through the cancel procedure and it wouldn't let me but I kept scrolling through different pages on PayPal and I found another page with another option to cancel, which I did.

I've did the same thing but I just misspelled the email address and I'll bet there was no person registered with that address so it went undelivered and I could cancel the transaction. If it would've been an active address I probably would have been SOL. 8O

Yes, Virginia, there are people out there who do not check their e-mails for weeks. I am one of them.
As far as that other, there is good reason why both smallpox and paypal gift are to be avoided. Hope things work out for you.

I find it easier to just pay the fee myself and send everything for service or goods. A few bucks for peace of mind is worth it, at least to me.

I can't believe Paypals policy on this ! If the Sender wants to cancel the transaction, they shouldn't make it this difficult...

Well, if you circumvent their billing process, you lose protection in their system.
I've been asking for payment via "family & friends" but I think that I'll let that up to the buyer and offer a choice (straight cost via F&F or +3% thru their normal system for payments.

If I've never dealt with the person before, or they're new, I just pay the fee. Hope this works out for you!

I'm really sorry to hear this Dave. I had a similar issue, though in my case the seller mistyped his email address. When I looked at my account, the money was still sitting there so I canceled the send and reposted it to the corrected address. I hope that the recipient will do the right thing and send you back your money.

Paypal was one of the systems hit hardest by the recent (Oct. 20/21, 2016) hack. I don't use it, but I'm so old school, I wouldn't.

Well I was refunded all of my money today. The person I accidentally sent it to paid it all back. Phew that's a load off.
