I am having a serious PAD attack this morning, after looking at my wall of pipes I realized I do not have a Clay pipe in the lot, now I can't stop thinking about getting one. Looking for suggestions on a good brand to buy, and because I've never smoked on any tips would be helpful as well.

One other thing since most people here suffer from PAD and TAD has anyone been successful in filing for disability. I don't want a living just enough to pay for my pipes.

old german clay by markus fohr!

I don't think there's a "quick fix" to any of this. It's all about self control. I just don't buy new pipes because i already have enough. Tobacco is a different story...
I do both and enjoy acquiring both.

In the same boat for different styles. I am miffed at Smoking pipes, no sooner after I buy a couple dynamite pipes, do they post two more, in perfect shape and finish that are on my wish list.... I give these things two weeks. If either is still there in two weeks, then I will reconsider.

I got it so bad I couldn't resist buying a Peterson so I could get the free St. Paddy's Day Tin. Fighting the urge for the Nording pipe and bobblehead. Damn you Smoking Pipes.

The saving grace is it's pipe show season. I am attending one in one week, that helps wait and see whats on the floor.

But I will wish I had bought both these when the time comes.... I know it.

I shall lament my choices. They all run ill.

I'm right there with you. I've long wanted one of those dang bobbleheads and I've already blown too much money on pipes lately lol!

I really like my Old Dominion Williamsburg clay. Can't go wrong Old German clays either.

IMO, smoking a clay isn't all that different from smoking any other type of pipe. Some people put nail polish on the tip of the stem, but I prefer a light coating of wax.

I bought a box of 12 "tasting " clays from Dan Pipe ages ago.Still have some and others were used for guests. I also a long Tavern type that I smoked twice about 20 years ago.

Personally I've found the sting of credit card interest to be (slightly) less than that of seeing OUT OF STOCK when you hit refresh on that one-of-a-kind dream piece, so... different strokes haha

I’ve had only good experiences with old German clays. I smoke them til they’re saturated with tar, put them in hot coals. They come out clean white, then I smoke them again. I also put a bit of wax on the stem to prevent lips from sticking. I would smoke clays more often but I’m a clencher and the clay stem is a bit rough on the teeth. I eye those models with plastic or vulcanite stems but I hesitate because I doubt they can be cleaned in coals and I don’t like how clay smokes when it get really dirty

Some find forum membership to be an instigator. After seeing so many pipes here it's given me a mild aversion to buying more. Desensitization through overexposure I suppose. Makes Mr hope I never join a barbering forum.
