" I define PAD as buying pipes I don't really need for no other reasons than they have sparked some unholy possessive need, especially after I told my wife that I wouldn't.

You don't hear me complaining, do you? Actually, the thing I complain about the most is the low frequency of my smoking, which limits the demand for new pipes and tobacco! Life, always getting in the way.

Sounds spot on. I just purchased another pipe after I had a talk two days ago with my girlfriend and she said that I don't need any more for a while lol.

Thanks all I feel sightly better about the 20 or so pipes I have bought in the last few months. The other day I recieved a brigham pipe in the post, I said to my missus look at this, it is the kind of pipe that means I dont need anymore. As you will of guessed later that day I bought 4 other random pipes. I justify this by saying i am a serious collector of very specific things such as;

Black sandblast pipes

French pipes with sub category pipes made in St Claude

At least one of the various materials, metal corncob briar etc

At lest one of every shape I can think of even ones I dont like

Bulldogs

Meerschaum lined

At least one of all the recognised quality brands I can afford

All the pipes that nobody wants on e bay with 30 seconds left which I then end up over bidding on

I try to deliberate until someone else buys the pipe. That works from time to time. Then I try to

choose only one shape and finish of pipe and shop in circles while several different pipes contend

for purchase. Then I try to negotiate cease fires, setting dates before which i will not buy another

pipe, or alternately, look forward to particular seasonal sales or events (pipes shows, state fair)

and wait for those. Then I go on excursions through my current stable and enjoy pipes I haven't

smoked for a month or two or more. Then I buy another pipe. Such is life.
