I had the privilege of meeting master piano technician and magnificent pipe carver extraordinaire Scott Thile at this year’s St. Louis Pipe Show. I desperately wanted to purchase a pipe from his collection but I had spent all my tokens (and then some) earlier in the day. Despite this Scott gave me a solid 20 mins of his time answering all my questions about Pipedia and it’s founding. This past week I pushed the button on what I consider to be a signature shaped pipe of Scott’s and today it arrived. The pipe exceeded my expectations. I am thrilled.

Yes, what an interesting career. I always enjoy window shopping his pipes anyway. The grain and the finish on this one is spectacular. His shaping is advanced, truly an art. It is also interesting he is the dad of the famous mandolin maestro and NPR radio host, a home schooled wunderkind. Congratulations on your superb new briar.

If you have to cave to PAD then that's the way to do it. Very nice and a great connection to remember the time you spent with him too.

Kudo's on a real beauty, pipebaum81. And you are sure right, as a person and as a pipe maker, they don't make 'em any better than Scott!
