I have a commission coming that, block willing, will be a natural finish.
I couldn't find any naturals in this shape - the closest was a bag of 12 that may or may not have the shape in it.

I love my Dr. Grabow Sculptura Author shape....but...we are talking about nicer stuff here I guess :) So I would go with one of these if I had to choose.

I know the suggestions are somewhat pointless being as you bought one (congratulations by the way, hope it is smoking well) but maybe you'll get another!

Oh, I stared at the rusticated ones for a while. The Noce came second.
I had one bowl of Prince Albert in it (I don't do the third/half/full ritual) and it performed well. Burned to the bottom with almost no moisture. Somebody told me Authors are very noble in this respect due to the wider bowls - not sure how much truth there is to that.
But boy, it's a nice looking pipe.

I have 2 Rossi authors - one in the smooth Messina finish, one in the rusticated Vittoria - and this holds true for them. I'll occasionally have some issues getting them lit (packing, I think), but once they get going, they stay going.

So my first new pipe was a Rossi 8320 in one of the darker smooth finishes. The finish on the bottom bubbled a little (which was probably my fault), and a few months back it developed a fairly large spot of burnout at and just above the stem, which I suspect was a flaw in the briar. However, given the massive thickness of of the bowl wall at that spot it never got near the exterior of the bowl and was easily repaired with some pipe mud. I love the shape, though. Comfortable, fits well in the hand, clenches.
