I’ve contentedly owned the same half dozen Grabow’s and Baskets from 1994 until this forum ignited an interest in my acquiring so called, higher quality pipes.

I also blame Blue Room Briars for being such a fantastic business. I now own 20 additional briars, mostly BRB estates. Actually, 21 as of this morning, making a modest collection of 27 briars, not counting an African Meer and 8 -10 cobs.

It’s been fun. But I still say a well drilled pipe is a pipe is a pipe.

Putting my money where my mouth is — I was admiring a new Savinelli 811 for $120 but instead ordered a new $48 Rossi Victoria 8811 sandblast. Why? It’s the same pipe. — For those whom may not know, Savinelli owns Rossi. So place an “8” in front of the Sav model number and you’ll find a Rossi counterpart of the same dimensions.

Hardly smoked any of my pipes and haven't had the urge to buy more. Maybe I should just smoke my cigars out of my pipe? Then I can buy both.

With the high price of cigars, you could add a new pipe to each pipe tobacco tin order for the same money as a box of cigars.

$10 or more dollars per stick for a lower brand. Ouch!

I go to a local place called Zeal Cigar that has quite a few house brand cigars they put out. A few of them have become some of my favorite sticks with all of the ones I smoke costing under $7 dollars a piece. There are also plenty of amazing boutique and mainstream brand cigars for under $10. That being said you are right, buying a box of 20 can easily cost you two bills. Pipe tobacco is far more friendly on the wallet.

I agree! I really like the Savinelli Pipes, but cant bring myself to spend that much more, and always find myself immediately looking at the Rossi counterpart.

That said I did just pick up this sharp looking pipe.

What I think this site does more than anything is to give the individual comfort in knowing that there are other guys and gals out there that like pipes and tobacco as much as you do. It becomes OK to spend money on pipes and excess tobacco because other people do it too. It's a confirmation that you aren't a total odd ball because there are a whole group of odd balls out there, and thank God for you all.
