I smoke bowls all the way to the bottom, so there is no dottle left to add to anyway. Since the bottom is usually my favorite part I dont think I could ever see myself "topping up" If I need two bowls in a row ill just switch pipes.

I can smoke down to the bottom if the pipe doesn't go out. However I find that no matter what the tobacco or how soon after it goes out, relighting a pipe past about the halfway point tastes, at least for the first few draws, like what I imagine burning cow dung would :(

I do it occasionally, especially with an exceptionally tasty blend, like Anniversary Kake or PS Luxury Twist ...and especially on long drives. I probably wouldn't do that with an aromatic or lat blend, but I'm not sure why, except that I would expect either of those to be more finicky with souring.

When I smoke a bowl, I smoke it to the bottom because that is where the best flavors are for me. The thought of not doing that is abhorrent to me and I would rather stick an ice pick in my eye than to smoke any other way. Of course if that is your thing then have at it but the last third gets so concentrated and so flavorful that I would never want to give that up.

Harris, but imagine if you had several times the amount of stoving of those Virginias to make them even more flavorful. That makes the last bit even better, IMO. It's not like you would never smoke down to the dottle. You just keep adding more and more flavor to that last little bit.
