They are a passing fad.
After almost a century doesn't something lose that title?

Nope. People are just slow to come around.

I don't own one but have always wondered about them. Just can't bring myself to spend money on a pipe that I might love with a bit that I don't like. I am a clencher and I too prefer a wide thin fishtail bit. Plus, and I know this seems silly, I just don't like the way they look in the over all composition of a pipe. I like how fishtail bits taper to the button and then seem to have a definate termination. I just don't like the rounded look of the p-lip

To each his own. That is why there are more pipes around than one can smoke in a lifetime. No need to force a pipe or a style you do not care for. Peterson has been in business for a long time and they have no problem selling pipes. Many guys really appreciate them just exactly how they are. I'm a clencher and I have a large Peterson with a p-lip. I have a rubber softee cushion on it and I like the pipe, P-lip small hole and everything else about it. I have no problem running a pipe cleaner through it. I paid $107.00 for a Kinsale XL20 and I'm a very satisfied customer.

Hi have 10 Peterson 1 being a P lip, for me i find fishtails are the better, but each to there own also depends on your teeth, i can not hold it properly in my mouth im a clincher, and love nothing more than pipe in mouth book in hand, but the p lip keeps slipping from side to side with me just can not get a good enough grip on the stem,
